About CORTEX

Collaborative Opportunities for Research, Training, and Excellence in Innovation

CORTEX is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the future of healthcare through cutting-edge education, research, and innovation. As medical science evolves at an unprecedented pace, we recognized the need for a platform where healthcare professionals, medical students, and research trainees can collaborate, learn, and lead. CORTEX was born in 2024 from the essential need for peer-to-peer learning and career development, creating opportunities for the next generation of biomedical innovators.

Our mission is to empower future leaders in biomedical science by providing comprehensive support through mentorship, peer education, and hands-on research experiences. We foster an environment where curiosity meets opportunity, preparing our members to tackle real-world challenges in healthcare.

At CORTEX, we host conferences, webinars, and academic meetings that bring together thought leaders, researchers, and industry experts. Our personalized consultancy services help healthcare organizations develop strategic solutions and infrastructure, driving innovation and operational excellence.

Our vision is simple: to empower healthcare professionals and students with the tools they need to push the boundaries of healthcare and biomedical science. Together, we’re not just keeping up with the future of medicine—we’re helping create it.

About the founder:
Nausheen Ahmed

Dr. Nausheen Ahmed is a hematologist-oncologist specializing in blood cancers, with a focus on cellular therapy and stem cell transplant.

Her research interests involve quality and process improvements, care delivery with respect to CAR T therapy and increasing diversity in clinical trials. She is also actively involved in research aimed at improving outcomes for patients with blood cancers. She is excited to continue to explore new ways to treat blood cancers more effectively. Her publications can be found here.

As an associate professor of medicine, she continues to mentor students across various institutions and walks of life.  She provides peer education and established the ICE-T symposium, with the support of valued collaborators, which was first hosted in Kansas City in 2024. Dr. Ahmed founded CORTEX after working closely with students and recognizing an abundance of talent hindered by a lack of resources and mentorship. Inspired to bridge this gap, she established CORTEX as a platform to advance biomedical education, foster innovation, and empower the next generation of healthcare professionals through research, mentoring, and collaboration.

Dr. Ahmed completed her fellowship training at Tufts University/Baystate in Springfield, Massachusetts. She then pursued an advanced fellowship in transplant and cellular therapy at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she gained extensive experience in the use of stem cell transplantation and immune effector cell therapy.

In addition to her work as a hematologist/oncologist, she is also a devoted mother of 2 children, and lives in Kansas. In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
